Is there a difference between hypnosis and meditation?

This question comes up frequently with clients, classes and lectures. Is there a difference? I personally feel these states are very similar in experience, much the same body awareness, state of mind, etc. But I feel what you do, or the intention you bring into that state is different.
Hypnosis is more intentional and active. Meditation is more about allowing and letting go of all conscious influence.

What do you think?

What's your experience?
